The Rotary Ekiden Run made its debut in Perak at Ipoh Padang recently. The purpose of the event was to raise funds for charities. Mayor, Dato’ Roshidi Hashim, flagged off the race. A total of 500 participants took part in the 5×2km relay run that began at Ipoh Padang to the square at Little India along Jalan Sultan Yussuf and back. Each team consisted of 5 participants and each participant had to run two kilometres making a total of 10km.The race was well received with teams from Japan and Switzerland taking part, including one from Precious Gift Home, Ipoh, who turned up on wheelchairs; their physical disabilities notwithstanding. Rotary Club of Ipoh President, Wu Chee Tatt was delighted with the keen participation shown and mentioned this in his opening address. Attention stealer was the best dressed team named, “Yes, We Can”. They ran wearing formal clothing carrying placards with positive messages plastered on their backs. Champion was the KRI Club team who finished the race in the fastest time
